Default Vortex Generator!!!! Now I need your help!

Well, having fixed on my brand spanking new carbon fibre looking vortex generator (roof diffuser) I have to admit to the jury being well and truly out on its look and effect! Perhaps a little too 'Halfrauds Hero'
Now this was another infamous impulsive purchase.
Anyway, the final decision was taken out of my hands this morning after a swift sortee up the local duel carriageway. The VG whistled sweetly (aaah - must be reaching optimum ait diffusion I thought) before suddenly tearing off the roof and sailing at least 50 metres into the sky.
Scared that it was going to cause a major RTA I very bravely nailed the loud pedal and got the hell out of there.
Oh well - £200 down the drain (or into the sky) and I am left with a roof covered in black tar like bodykit adhesive. Wi;ll I ever learn.
Any advice on how to remove this black gunk from my roof to restore it back to original would be appreciated.

I should have included a disclaimer at the bottom of the post as follows;

This post is highly likely to be prone to chronic exaggeration and perhaps a tad of irony.....

If you want the truth try this. The vortex generator did come off the car but flew undramatically into the hedge. I dilly dallied for a few seconds before thinking 'sod it - I am well shot of it' and then carried merrily on my way - not another car in sight.
You see, the truth is nowhere near as fun. Any way back to the problem - how do I get rid of the tar like gunk.

you can try bug and tar remover. after wards you'll need to give the roof a good polish and wax.

if you do this don't rub too hard and don't let the paint gun get too near the paint otherwise you're looking at a respray.

Think I'll go with the Bug and Tar Remover first - don't trust myself with any sort of gun

just be patient with it. it will get there in the end. better to do it a bit at a time and leave good looking paint that make it fade or bubble. the heat gun and thinners can be ok if you've got a gentle touch. trouble is most of us get impatient and go at it like a bull in a china shop.

I have one of these too.... ever since i stuck it down i thought sh*t why did i do that i don't like it.

It really sticks out like a sore thumb. I've tried a few high speed runs in the hope that it would disappear into oblivion but sadly it remains planted firmly to the roof.

I haven't taken it off for fear of damaging the paint work...

To make things worse its covered in this carbon effect film that the sun has burned/faded and made all blotchy. I think painted to the cars colour and it would have been fine.... ish!!

Not content with the M3 tape supplied i stuck more on as well.

A mate fitted these to his car yesterday (bugeye), they look allot better and come in 8 separate fins instead of a plank slapped on the roof. (like mine)

There are allot more subtle and ALLOT cheaper should you change your mind. £10

Quick update - tried everything to move the 'gunk' left on my roof after the VG decided to take off into orbit earlier in the week. The result -
disasterous
Finally gave up and phoned Adam at Scoobyclinic who said he can sort it. Whilst on the phone I also ordered a high level STi spolier to be fitted at the same time. Doh....will I ever, ever learn.

At last the Vortex Generator saga is over. The actual generator has been long gone - likely crushed beneath the wheels of a juggernaut .
However, since it's swift unexpected departure from my car I have been driving around with a load of gunk on my roof which has proved un-moveable! The black gunk made it look as if a bleedin' pterosaur had crapped on my roof .
Enter SCOOBYCLINIC..... now I have a nice shiny crap free roof and just to compensate for the loss of said generator they have sprayed and fitted a wonderful high-level spolier to keep me happy
Thanks Adam and gang
