Unhappy Transmission fault -Gearbox grinding

I own a 98 MY turbo wagon and my gearbox has been notchy for a number of
years now when changing gear. This fault is liveable with but gradually
becomes worse over a period of months, however, for some strange reason it
occasionally totally clears but then gradually returns over the next few
months. I have had 2 gearbox examinations carried out with no faults found.
The car has also had a new clutch at the first examination/rebuild. After
both examinations the fault disappears for a few weeks and then the fault
gradually reappears. Over the past few days the fault has degraded further
to the point when undertaking 3-4 shift at high revs the gears clearly
grind. A similar thing happens at 5-4 shift. At low revs the fault is not
apparent. I have also changed the gearbox oil recently with no noticeable
effect to the fault. Has anyone experienced anything like this or does
anyone have any potential solutions?

Many thanks

Ady

I have a simular problem going into first gear and from fourth to fifth.....

brought the car and had it fully serviced and properly looked at straight away......

the gear bok had no oil in it and even tho top notch synthetic oil was put in it was unable to resolve the problem although it has got better....

basicaly the synchro mesh is burnt out.....

as far as i understand, its a gearbox out and strip job....

although im no expert it sounds the same as yours....

i must admit it wont actually start happening untill ive driven about 15 min but then its all the time till i stop....
