Default Late spec steering wheel on pre-facelift classic dash

I've got myself a momo airbag wheel from a Bugeye WRX, I've transplanted the wiring harness, the wheel bolts on but its forcing against the plastic shroud behind the wheel.. Has anyone else had this problem when changing wheels and is there a sollution?

Thanks

If you bought the Wheel from Butty on here then I'm sure he'd be more than willing to help

Does it squeak/creak when you turn the steering wheel? My steering wheel does that. It rubs against the plastic behind it. I think mine is the original one though. I've got a 95 wrx jap import, and the steering wheel on it is nardi. My mate has similar car - 94 wrx import and his has the same nardi steering wheel, so I'm assuming all the imports had that one.

My mate's s/w doesn't squeak though, so I think mine had been taken off at one point and then put back on. Maybe it could need some sort of washer/spacer fitted to hold it forward from the plastic a bit. Someone had suggested using some sort of grease behind it to stop it rubbing, but I didn't bother. I know it doesn't really help you, but just thought I'd let you know.

I cant even do up the bolt enough, the shroud is under so much strain its popping appart at the seams!

Cant really space it out because the shaft is designed to recess into the wheel a certain distance before the splines are fully locked into place

Does anyone know if the face lift steering column shroud is different to the pre98 one?

I had a UK MY96 which had a Subaru steering wheel on it almost like a bus . I bought a Momo wheel from grade A Subaru breakers I think, and it fitted straight on no problem with the steering shroud. Only difference was 3 wires to two or something for the airbag.

Yeah I've had to chop up the wires, there were three for the airbag and one for the horn, the wheel does fit on the splines its just sitting too far back for some bizare reason!
