Default SS Exhaust (centre) repair

My Impreza failed its MOT today the guy said the centre exhaust pipe looked like it had been grounded and split I have NO recollection of doing this.

He said you can have it repaired, but recomends a new one. He then tried to sell me a non SS one, so I dont think he knows too much. Is it worth getting it repaired or am I just looking for more problems in the future?

And does anyone know who does SS welding in South Yorkshire?

Thanks,

PaulG.

Any reputable garage should be able to do it. Welding SS is just the same as mild steel, with different gas and different rods/wire.

Try Yell.com the UK's local search engine - search for UK businesses , and ask around.

Take it off to save paying someone to do it and get someone with a tig welder to repair it for you. Shouldn't be too hard to find a mechanic or even an engineering place that has a tig. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to do if he's calls himself a welder. So should cost you damn all. I had the middle box on my magnex on my 205Mi16 split just at the rim. 5 minute job by a guy at the engineering factory I used to work at. I couldn't tell where he had welded when he was finished it was so neat.

Any powerflow dealer will have the right kit.....thats where I took an SS exhaust for repair, they can even usually do it on the car, cost me £20.

Thanks guys, some garages gave me some numbers (two places, one in sheffield and one near donny, and are both on the powerflow list)

One place local to me said if I bring the exhaust in, he'll welding it no probs, and was sooooo keen to help. So might take my luck there.

Thanks again all.

Thanks again, took the exhaust off and into a local welders, 10 minutes and a FIVER!!! later, it was done. I gave him more as he saved me much more.

Exhaust back on and already feel a slight increase in performance, I must have got used to the hole being there

Thanks, PaulG.
