noisey/dead gearbox?????
my car has started making a nasty worn out bearing noise, would i get away with just changeing the bearings if so which ones and rough prices, or is it likely to be expensive ie full rebuild, the car is a my94wrx and would i need any special tools for pulling the bearings off???thanks in advance for your help.
You will probably find the g/box will run for a long time with the noisey bearing(s). I know this from first hand experience on more than one g/Box. The rumbling of the U/S bearing sounds bad but I have not had one actually break up.
It is probably the bearing(s) in the transfer box where your drop gears are and not the gearbox itself.
The transfer box is easy to swap or you can take it apart and ask someone with a press to remove the old bearings and fit the new.
Locally, I have used John Pye Motorsport to refurbish several transfer boxes for me. I think the last one cost £62 and that included puting the transfer box back onto the gearbox.

I second Harveys comment. We quite often find that the drop gear bearings are noisy and that is good news, as they can be got at and changed with the box still in the car.
Check it out first before taking the box out.
