Default longer 5th gear

hi anyone had this done to make it better for cruising.
car is a 92 wrx with a vb3aa box not so good on the motorway
80 mph the car sounds like its in pain about 4k revs

all help welcome any ideas on the cost to strip inspect + fit the fifth gear needed

what revs would a longer 5th gear be doing@ 80 mph ?

is there anyone in the northwest who do this?

thanks danny

Not sure how mine varies to yours, but I'm on 3k rpm @ an indicated 80 mph

Not sure if it is actually worth the hassle and expense. You would need a another box preferably a uk one with a longer fifth, I doubt if you could get fifth gear on it's own. Then the expense of removing your gearbox and putting in a longer fifth. That would probably work out quite dear to be honest. Anyway sod the cruising that's not what these cars are about, short ratios for frantic acceleration. I think the uk fifth works out to about 25mph/1000 rpm.

Try this site for some gear ratios

Which Car is a WRX STi

There's a speed calculator link from that page, which you can use to see what speeds the ratios equate too.
