Default New standard oil cooler for rebuild?

Having my engine rebuilt at the moment and i've been told that the standard oil cooler (the one that sits above the oil filter) should be replaced due to the possibility of bits of metal being trapped inside?
Is this the case, or can the original be flushed through?

Don't take the risk, replace it.

For the record it's called a Modine

Had my rebuild at RCMS and they advised me to get a new oil modine to be on the safe side, i suppose you could flush the old one through but if some crap gets left in there you new engine may suffer.

I'd definitely go for a new one!

NOTE: It's what I've read on 'ere and on 22B.

It's good practise to replace the modine/oil cooler if the engine's done a meltdown or something more spectacular. Not worth risking several grand on the chance small bits of metal could be trapped in it.

Chris,

I did suggest Craig changed this, as part of the build.

When you're ready, I'll do what I can for you.
