About a month ago its stopped working... my air-con switch lights up when pressed... but the compressor ain't kicking in...
Will this just be down to it possibly needing a re-gas... because I'll hold my hands up and addmit I haven't really used it as I should have over the winter...

 

From what I have read if the system pressure is low the compressor will not kick in, a safety feature so it doesn't run dry of oil. You need to test the pressure in the system, if there is a nil reading there may be a hole somewhere.

I'm in the same boat at the mo, mine aint worked since a bought the car. Finally go around to an attempt at filling it with coolant and it just vented straight out again. Battery acid had eaten the pipe.

You will do well to get replies on anything to do with the AC system. I'm trying to learn as I go.

Mine has worked fine since I've had it... the previous owner fitted a new A/C rad...
So fingers crossed it'll just be a re-gas... or like you've said a pipe and then re-gas...

You can test the compressor clutch by using a spare piece of wire to join live direct from the battery to the compressor. If you can hear the clutch clicking in and out then your problem is most likely to be low gas, or less likely the pressure switch. If you can't hear any clicking then the electromagnetic clutch is worn. Best bet is to go and get the system re-gassed, and if there are any problems, wherever you go will soon tell you what is wrong with it.
