I dont know if anybody remebers but I posted before about a funny smell. It turned out that I reckon its the sump gasket. Oil seems to be running round the top of the sump where a gasket would be although I have since found out that its a resin seal. I spoke to a helpful guy at Scooby Sport and he said that it was an engine out job which seems a bit of an expensive shame ! He didi however point out that perhaps I should sort try and see if its the rocker cover gasket. Its not the crank oil seal because Ive had all the covers off and it looked dry as a bone.
Getting a bit irratated with replacing stuff all the time now...
Its not the expense its the inconvenience
Anyone else had any similar sorts of problems ??

Cheers

Question

The drivers side rocker cover gasket is a common problem, it happened on my old MY94WRX. Mine was so bad that when the engine reached temperature smoke could be seen coming out of the bonnet air scoop!!. Could you get the car upto operating temp and then stop and take a look around the hotter parts?.

be warned it's a bastward to do but the sump can be taken off with the engine in.

remove the filter the filter housing/cooler,heat shields and pipes, undo both lower engine mounts and then push up the front of the engine abou 2" which should give you enough room to get to the rear sump bolts.you need to be patient as it is awkard but do able.
