Default Imports and de-cats

Ok guys what is the deal here will a classic import pass an emisions test if it is de-catted been told so many stories about how the garages dont have the exact figures for import models that aslong as it isn't sky high levels it will pass, please pass on some wisdom for past experiences

reason i am asking is because i have planned to book the car in to Meercat for a full straight through system with a snake head manifold and dont fancy spending 500+ on a system if i need to change parts every year

Give AWD in Perth a call, they have solutions (as i'm sure many other garages do).

So what are you having done at Meercat and how much? I might be in the market for a new centre & backbox.

hi mate as far as i know if your import is pre september 95 it doesnt have to do the cat test. Mines a 94 wrx and it failed emmissions with no cats but i went in and argued that it didnt require a cat test as it was pre sept 95. The tester checked and said i was right so he re-tested it with non cat test and it passed with flying colours. as far as i know the reason is that as the scoob turbs werent produced in the uk till after september 95, any impreza manufactured before then dorsnt exactly match the dot register.

Hope this is if some help.

Imprezas were introduced in 1994 in the UK(all imprezas come from Japan just off different factory lines for different markets).
The Early WRXs (possibly STIs as well) aren't on the VOSA database (they weren't last year for my mot on a 93wrx no cat) and so the testers use the UK turbo for the emissions test sometimes.

They cant be included on a VOSA database as they werent submitted for type approval by the manufacturer/importer when new. They cant be retrospectively added.
