NEWBIE LOOKING FOR SOME ADVICE/INFO
Just sold my FTO and looking for a 51-53 plate WRX. Looking forward to being a frequent user/member of this site :-)
I've got a 'must have' list for searching for my Impreza which is...
1. No more than 50k on the clock - prefer around 40k mark
2. No more than 2 owners - prefer 1
3. Either World Rally Blue ot Silver
4. Budget of around £8k mark
When looking at Imprezas are there any common problems to check for?
What are the service intervals? When does the cam belt need changing?
Any help is very appreciated as I aim to get out and view some this weekend.
Cheers
Lee

Hey mate, welcome.
I'm the same, just buying my first Scooby, it's a silver 02 plate with 55k on the clock.
Service intervals are every 10k miles I believe, and the cambelt change is at 50k. For that reason, you *may* be better off looking to buy a scooby with just over 50k on the clock (if you want to buy one with 40k(ish) anyway).
As for common problems, I'll leave that to the experts on here as I'm not too sure.

Cheers all - how much on average should a cam belt change cost? How much is the cam belt itself?
I will carry out all other servicing myself but don't trust myself with changing the cam belt and I don't own the correct aligning tools

You're gonna have to change the private reg now fella!! Nice FTO mate, like that a lot!
You can prob pick up a 2001 WRX for 7K+ now. Mine has a few cosmetic mods and if I was selling I'd prob sell mine for about £7500. Mine does have 60K on the clock though. I had my cambelt done at 50K. So far my only problem has been replacing the Lambda sensor. Subaru wanted £250 to do it. I bought one of a helpful guy on SNET for £30 and a local garage fitted it for £30. Bargain. Other that that just wear and tear....

How about this one for sale on SNET? A lot higher mileage than you wanted but a good motor for £7500!

I bought my 02 WRX with 48k on the clock it's now up to 72k without any major problems know what you mean it's nice to have a low mileage but if you buy one AA/RAC inspected then it should be OK, that is what I always do.
