Default Tuned P1 Gearboxes

Are P1 gearboxes stronger and able to handle a bit more than the standard 280 ish BHP power?
I have seen p1 s advertised with 350 bhp.
What are the prospects for the gearbox?
Advice appreciated.

Although I think I know what the answer will be.

I'm sure the gearbox will be fine at that power level - no worries at all

their are people with 400bhp and on standard box's, it must be down to how you use it

I agree. It is down to the violence of the shifting.
I have 380 bhp/370 lbft of torque and have competed the car hard for 4 years, about 160 drag starts, 5500 rpm and dump the clutch:

Note how slowly I change gear!

No probs at all on a stock Sti V3 box (technically weaker than the P1)

350bhp shouldn't trouble a P1 box too much. They share the sti 5/6 gearbox which is the toughest 5 speed out there.

They do have a known fault were the retaining nut on 5th can work it's way loose. If it has a snick when shifting quickly into fifth, normally at high revs, thats a classic symptom.
