Anyone heard any instances of an MY01 with piston slap? I have heard (not all the time) the same sounds as posted on this site on occassions when starting from cold. Cold starts are starts in a garage and in Australia (so not too cold).

Might have to leave with a dealer overnight to listen to it.

First 2 mins you can hear it at idle and when you rev. Next minute or so only when rev then after that no problems.

When you say you've heard the different sounds on this bbs, do you mean the recording of piston slap noise? If you haven't, go to this link, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alan.leslie/ and have a listen. If that is what it sounds like, you probably have piston slap. I however have not heard of any MY01s with the slap yet.

Thanks....Yes that is the recording I have heard......mine actually sounds worse than that! I heard it inside the cabin quite noticably but I only get it around 50% of the time.....had some comments back from another MY01 owner who says he has a similiar noise which he feels may be the cold exhaust related......Will keep an eye and ear out for further comments but will prob make a dealer stop at some stage....Only done 8,000k but heard since about 2,000k

i must admit i havn't heard it on 01 turbos yet but i have heard it on 01 legacys. i thought they would have sorted it out by now i mean it is 3 yrs since they started having problems with pistons.
