Default BHP CLAIMS???

Generally speaking - do car manufacturers quote the bhp figures as through the wheels or from the flywheel?

e.g. the uk spec sti is now 280 bhp - is this at the flywheel? if so what would that roughly translate to at the wheels (tarmac)

my car is 323 bhp (flywheel) what would that be?

In the UK most mfrs quote the crank - normally in PS rather than bhp as well..

I would have thought that Manufaturer's claims are at the flywheel, the result of engine dyno figures, rather than any form of "atw" rolling road figures? Also thought they would want the highest figure they could for publicity purposes? Could be wrong though......

Izzy's right. Flywheel figs and PS not BHP to maximise headline figures. Who'd want to quote ATW figs which can be 20-25% lower. My RR figs 261 ATW and 328 flywheel, which would you boast about.

but id take it that youd have to consider what kind of running gear ie...drivetrain, clutch and gear box you have to determine how much power is being lost in the transfer from flywheel to atw figure wouldnt you???

Yep! Also tyre pressures, and or binding brakes will have an effect on ATW figures.
