Question

Found this on the MRTrally site. Any MY01 owners experienced this? Does anyone think that this could be related to my whining between 3600-4000rpms (when hot only) noise that I've been getting on my MY01 STI RA?

Impreza Turbo Whirring Noise

If your "new" shape Impreza turbo creates a whirring noise similar to someone blowing across the top of a bottle, worry no more! This is now known as a factory fault, caused by the blow off valve vibrating on part throttle.

First diagnosed by MRT. Subaru tells us the new parts have recently arrived BUT, make sure you get the new version or it WILL re occur!

Is yours an STI? I suspect that it could be something to do with the AVCS (the variable valve timing) on the STI engines. I've heard 2 other friend's STI's, and they both have the same quality of noise. Not as loud though, but maybe its cos their milage's are higher. My engine's only at 4000km.

I'm pretty confident that my noise is not related to the BOV whirring that MRT describes. I contacted them, and they kindly replied that the BOV whirring is more dependant on engine load rather than RPM.

What's your milage at the moment?
