Question

Just had the new magnex twin dump downpipes fitted to my standard MY99 (standard cat and back box, and air filter)

BIG PROBLEM.... get to 5k revs and you get this all mighty buzzing noise (i know what your thinking, vibration on a bracket or heat sheild, nope checked that like 50 times up on ramps) the noise is a cross between an broken electric bell and a gasp for air.

It only happens when on the move and when acceleration hard, let it build to 5k and nothing, boot it to 5 k and BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Any thoughts?

Mine made a similar noise and Falkland Performance fixed it the next day, but I don't know what the noise way. But the noise was not necessarily RPM or engine load/boost related. Don't know what it was. But Falkland claim they designed the pipe in partnership with Magnex, so a phone call to them might give you a few pointers.

Did you replace the gasket?! damaged one would / could cause an air leak.

Also, check the lambda is fixed in place. There is also a similar sized tapping which needs to be blanked off, just round from the lambda tapping. This is used for imports which apparently have 2.
If this was unblocked, the rev range would suggest the turbo gas was at its highest velocity point, possibly causing vibration.

Mail me if more info needed.

Cool

When I had my Magnex fitted I got a vibration/rattle sound at around 4k. Took it back to Halfords as I said it sounded like the lower heatsheild rattling. Its now fine since they had it back. Only other vibration type noise now is the sound of the wastegate opening and closing which you can't hear with the standard d/p but can on the replacement de-cats..........

As far as i know everything was blanked of that should have been. The mechanic checked it a few times, and he did use a fresh gasket when installing it.
