Does anybody have any idea how much it costs to repair a CV joint? My front alloys are covered in what I thought was brake dust, but I'm starting to suspect a dodgy CV joint. When my wheels are in full lock, there is a clunking sound.

The car is going in for service at the end of the week to a Subaru dealership, and I'd like a rough estimate to the cost of repair.

Thanks in advance,

Tony Lee, UK.

Tony,

1. I hear a constant metallic sound coming from the front-left wheel when the car is moving. The noise is repetitive and its frequency depends on the velocity of the vehicle which may suggest that it is a rotating bit that causes the problem.

2. The noise can also be heard when the car is stationary and turning the wheel either way.

3. Paradoxically the noise is absent in the beginning. It starts doing it only after the car has been stressed after cornering, (or perhaps when something has warmed up?)

I have AntiLiftKit and -1.25 camber. Could this be the reason?

If anyone has a similar experience or knows what it could be Please Help.

Update on the problem.
I went to Subaru and the main screw of the front left wheel (I don't know the technical term; it is the one that runs along the axis and which is visible when you remove the wheel) was not tight enough; there was a bit of a play that caused the problem.
