Default Rear diff pinion support bearing

Hey guys, I finally got meself an impreza! It's awesome! It's a 2000 W reg AWD Turbo, completely standard, mica blue, full subaru history, and only done 40k miles! BUT.....I seem to already have a problem doh!

The car makes a noise that, to me, sounds like a wheel bearing gone. Just like a kinda droning noise coming from the back of the car I think. It sounds different on different roads tho, and a mate of mine just thinks it's tyre noise because of un-even wear. I'm not so sure? I have just been flicking through the service history tho, and on one of the invoices, it's got an advisory note at the bottom saying that the "rear diff pinion support bearing" will need replacing.....but there is no invoice for it anywhere so I assume it hasn't been done yet. Could that make a noise like a gone wheel bearing? Is it a major problem that I should sort out quickly?

Cheers guys
