Default Hesitation/misfire. Cause?

Over the past few days, i've noticed a kind of hesitation every now and again.

I've only really noticed it at 2500 rpm and in 3rd gear and when the car is not cold, but not up to full temperature. When hot, it doesn't appear to happen.

It feels like the pulsing you get when the car's not up to temperature and the ECU is adjusting the fuelling, only it's about every half a second rather than the 1 second interval you normally get.

The sparks plugs are about due for changing so this could be a likely candidate, but after searching, i'm starting to think it could be the boost solenoid sticking. Someone mentioned a noise than can be heard like blowing across the top of a bottle. I've had this noise every now and then since i've had the car (nearly 2 years), even with 2 different turbo's.

Any suggestions or checks that I can do before I start changing parts and spending money?

The car's a MY00 UK BTW.

Cheers

Have a mate who's been having similar problems. Ended up changing coil packs which helped a little, replaced oxygen sensor and is running fine now.
