What ecu was on the car before? as the z4 only produces about 250/260 bhp.

So I'm guessing you'd not really notice any difference anyway!

Been there, done that. I got a genuine Z4 for mine and noticed virtually nothing.

It has slightly better increased boost and improved fueling, in theory giving an extra 20ps, but IMO the main benefit of the Z4 - being able to run safely on UK 97/98 RON has been virtually negated by V-Power or Tesco 99 RON.

Also IMO, If you want any SIGNIFICANT, NOTICEABLE power increases, a Z4 is not enough in the early WRXs.

I Upgraded a std uk to a Z4, found torque was better in higher gears but nothing mind blowing, but compared to a 93 wrx (240 ps) your torque may be similar, but for longer giving the higher bhp. I ended up running a dawes set to 1 bar, the map is same as ppp so can handle the extra boost.

As Rossyboy stated the advantages are uk fuel, better economy, ability to run slightly more boost and smoother.

Unit could have been opened if previous owner used a chip upgrade. Easy way to tell it's a Z4 is record the boost figure.

hmmmm, i was under the impression that the ecu wud make a significant difference to the cars performance, which was y i bought it in the first place. i mean they r mapped with around 19bhp difference so shouldnt that noticeable of the standard w6 ecu that is in my car?

forgot to mention aswell, on closer inspection of the ecu, the serial no. on the z4 label does not match the small blue sticker on the yellow slots where the plugs go.

In this post by you i've put my r/r graphs one run with a w6 other with z4 (don't pay too much attention to bhp figures as i think the w6 was a fluke, but it does show the fuelling and boost differences).
Car is a 93wrx.
W6 run mods were decat, backbox and Apexi IK.
Z4 run mods were decat, full system and Apexi IK.
I too was dissapointed by the results running a z4

The operator of the r/r said i was better off with the z4 as the boost and fuelling was fine so tbh i think the bhp figure is to be taken with a pinch of salt. There is another thread that has been going on whether to remap on the road or r/r and how the car feels on the road is the most important.
I too was expecting a large increase but that possibly was a little naive so the options you/I have are to 'chip' the z4 or go for a full remappable ecu which of course means more money it all depends on how far you want to go with mods.

Your original 240bhp ECU ran at 0.8 bar, a Z4 increases that only by 0.1 bar.

And 0.1 bar ain't gonna give 20bhp, no matter what the figures say.
10 - 12 bhp is about all you'll get. And on a 250bhp engine, it's a tiny percentage gain and not enough to notice.

I looked at a Z4 for my '94 WRX ra, but decided on a ScoobyECU instead. Also got a full H&S Decat exhaust, STi4 intercooler and a sealed cold air box for the induction kit. Will also be porting the headers, and hopefully looking at about 300bhp. That I should notice.
