I've had this rocker leak problem on my 94 Legacy GT - Twin Turbo
My left side is constantly dripping onto the exhaust despite the garage sealing it!
I'm new to the Boxer Engine can anyone give me the low down.....
Does the oil need dropping on these to work on this gasket?
What's the process with the Sparks and their gaskets?
There appears to be very little room for spanners down there....

Also some hydraulic lifter tap when cold and also when under load from one head - i take it this would be one hell of a job to replace these? (Engine out / Cams out etc)

One last problem - i appear to be getting a shrill whistle from number one turbo when i accelerate (gently) - sounds like bearings to me but not sure - how can you tell? - Are these Ball Bearing as std?

Any help would be appreciated....

I asked something very similar recently and got little feedback. One good chap got back to me and said that he managed to change both gaskets with no problems.
Mine are just starting to weep and like you said the oil falls directly onto the exhaust creating an orrible smell when you park up.
Will be sorting it out this week and will let you know how i get on.

 

The rubber gaskets eventually go hard, especially on the drivers side, due to the heat from the manifold. Changing them isn't difficult and costs just over 60 quid a side.

Once they are perished, no amount of splodge will seal them.

Older Legacies are prone to tappet noise and it is expensive to cure.

 

Thanks Pete, and yes what you say is correct as the drivers side is leaking just above the manifold.
Off now to get some gaskets and see how much skin i can remove from my hands while changing them.

 

Thanks all for the advice on the gasket - just found out that the garage just gummed it up!
They are now sourcing the gasket - so no more oil smells hopefully!

The tappets are mainly there until operating temp but then quieten down.

I drove up to Thornbury, Bristol for some advice from Interpro who advised me that all sounds reletively OK - no more than a little wear in my number one IHI turbo.
