differences between classics and newage
I had a MY95 WRX jap import for a few years and i thought it was really fast in terms of acceleration but now i have a MY05 WRX PPP UK and even though its fast it just doesnt feel as if its the same power - seems to be about 30 BHP down.
anyone else experienced this or am i just being paranoid?

1st is the power delivery. I think classics have a steeper torque curve so the delivery is more brutal whereas the newage has a 'nicer' torque distribution through the rev range allowing for smoother acceleration.
2nd remember the classic is about 200 kilos lighter so has a better power the weight ratio.
3rd is that classic are superior anyway
Now, please would someone will prove me wrong on all the above..

i thought this too.
My UK MY98 was running around the 280bhp mark, yet on the 1/4 mile, the best i could manage was a 13.3, yet the MY05 WRX PPP i have now, is down on power and has a weight disadvantage and that runs a 13.4
My guess is it just feels slower as its a far less brutal delivery than the classic.
Down at York, my MY05 was beating most classics down there, (the mildly tuned ones)
i am also aware that this may be down to the driver as well before anyone starts moaning

cheers for all the input guys i agree with all points except the classic being better thean the newage, its a tight arguement but i think the brakes and the handling on the newage are nearly twice as good as the classic - not much in it really, i just wish it was more as just as raw as the classic
i do miss being whacked into the seat at high revs in the classic and it always impressed me every time even though i had it for years, the newage one kind of just pushes you into your seat!
cheers

Classics just feel faster 'cos they're always about to fall apart, whereas new age's are vastly superior in all respects...
