Like a circular saw cutting through plywood..?

Scares the ****e out of you..?

Yep, it's one of those scooby things I'm afraid..!

Someone will be along shortly to tell you to remove the white sticky label from inside the door mirror hinge, or that it's the rubber underskirt inside the scoop, or that its the windscreen wiper..! Trust me it's non of these..

My guess is it's the frame-less door seals. Mine only seems to do it at high speed when there is a strong cross wind. Has this happened in the last few days BTW..? There has been some strong winds about this last week or so..!

Talking of scooby noises, do you get the diff whine at ~62mph..? Clicking on full lock..? Humming from the brakes during high speed heavy breaking..? Clunk from brake pads when stopping a reverse..?

All good fun..

Same on my95, but from the passenger side pillar I rarely see that speed so it don't bother me too much

That the very sound, as you say like a circular saw though plywood (I know the exact sound having worked at Arnold Lavers when I left school many years ago ).

Anoying thing is my old WRX bug eye was v quiet upto 140.

The new car cost 20k more whistles like a ******* wel before that speed .

Talking of other noises/feelings. When you reverse and turn at slow speed it feels like the handbrake is been put on WTF that all about

LOL I'm gutted about it and mine's a MY98 WRX wagon. I thought it was the roof rails. It sounds for all the world like a really loud buzzing from the engine bay once you hit 110. But then if I sit up in my seat so my head's close to the roof it sounds like it comes from up there - the rails or the tops of the doors.

Right I`ll try that mate.

Do you think I should do it whilst reversing quite quickly and put full lock on at the same time .

I`ll let you know how I get on

I honestly believe it's to do with the frame-less door seals.

Saying that it's been a while since mine actually did it, even recently at an indicated 151 (and still going strong, but backed off as wifey was taking chunks out of seat bolsters..!)..

Hence my thoughts on cross winds..?

I think you have it spot on here!

I have had very similar experiences to this. What I would add though, is that if you put pressure against the top of the drivers window when hearing the noise (I clench my fist and press firmly) the noise disappears until I release the pressure. I'm sure it's the window seal - but only when there is sufficient cross wind, combined with sufficient speed, as they don't always do it. Guess the same thing could happen on the passenger side, but it only seems to do it on the drivers side on mine (MY02 WRX).

Yes, although it almost always happens at 110 on mine, it sometimes can be quiet and occasionally will buzz momentarily as if gusts of wind are catching it every now again. SO maybe it's not the actual forward speed that does it, but a combination of this and side wind as well?

my 53 plate does it as well, i intially thought it was the door seals but after having them checked i have no idea, mine seems to come through the passenger air vent!! - switch the fan on and it's even worse - bizzare but all part of the fun

Cool

It is cross-wind.

145 yesterday afternoon, calm wind-wise and no saw like noise.

Spooky

Wonder if anyone has cured this by fitting the Subaru wind diflectors:

Not sure what difference is between these two (appart from £££)..?
