Strange Starter Motor Noise

Strange Starter Motor Noise
Just been out at lunch time, and every time I started car up, the starter motor made a funny whistling type noise (best I can describe it). I am guessing this isn't good news but strange it only started at lunch as it was fine this morning.
Any suggestions?

It could be, but I have never heard this noise before and it only happened when I was turning the key to start the car up.
I just spent £1100 on brakes and service last week so could do without another bill.
