Default Crunching into reverse- please help

Having real problems selecting reverse, crunching ect, unless I am extremely gentle with it, is this normal? Ive got a 1997 uk 2000 turbo, also all the gears are a bit notchey, had a 1995 import last year and the gears were lovely and smooth, any ideas? clutch perhaps? its done 100k but not sure if its the original clutch , doesnt seen to slip or judder though, is there any adjustment ? any help on this would be great, cheers James

ive just had my oil changed for this reason and it feels great now but the subaru gearbox oil was made for the box and subaru wont sell it (some can get hold of tho) and they charge a bomb to change it.
To save on the grinding put it in to first before reverse that should stop 99% of it

Default hi

Thats what subaru said over the phone - he also asked if it was jumping out of reverse - no know problems as yest but if only driven it for about 60 miles and was very gentle with it. mmmm now im worried gonna try the oil first as its only about £30 - mite as well - seems to be quite a common problem reading the other posts. thanks again for the advice James
