Default Engine misfire? I've only had the car a week!!

Hi all,

Im new to scoobynet. Just got a my00 uk 2000 turbo. 61000, in good nick with full subaru history.

I got it last tuesday night and I just love it to bits.

But - took up the motorway the other night and was cruising at 70. The engine started to feel a bit odd, like the smoothness had gone, a bit rough.

I dont know anything about mechanics, but I do know it didnt feel right.

My brother mentioned it could be engine misfire because he could feel the gearstick knocking a little. He knows more about cars than me.

Then on the way back, after about 20 minutes on the motorway it started happening again. Then the Check Engine light came on! At this point I slowed down and took it very easy.

The light went out after a while, but I was well worried. I have driven it with extreme care since, and its going back to the garage tomorrow to be checked over, but I know they havent done that many Scoobys.

I looked at the last service sheet (not so long ago 60 thou), and the plugs were changed.

Any things I should check out?

Thanks!

My MY00 did exactly the same when driving at a constant speed on the motorway. Using Super unleaded solved it for me. If its a pulsing as if the car is holding back then its normal for MY99 or 00 car. The engine check light happened to me once when I filled up with BP 95RON together with the stuttering. Get the fault codes checked ASAP incase its something more serious. Good luck Bob

Thanks for that, its kinda nice to know its happened to someone else.

Since buying the car the only fuel I have put in it is BP Ultimate.

I found out today that the garage dont have the equipment to plug the car into an ECU thing (i dont know much about this).

They are going to change the plugs today, then when I get it back I am gonna book it into my local Subaru dealer - I want to have confidence in my car, not be worried about a 200mile trip to see family.

Thanks for the replies guys.
