induction kit on MY00 for use with fmic...

...inner wing vs engine bay, I'm planning my turbo\fmic upgrade and as I'll have to remove the standard airbox I'm wondering which option will be most appropriate?

Most FMICs use the inner wing where usually the CAK goes. Engine bay is no problem as long as you use some form of cold air box / shield - usually custom made.

Harveys are the hybrids.
As said you cant use a big K&N cone, i just run a normal 57i induction kit and it still flows enough for over 400 BHP. As said above could be made more efficient by isolating from the engine bay but i have not got round to that yet.

The problem is with the filter cone itself more so than anything else as it tends to push on the wheel arch liner which inturn hinders the wheel during turning as it fouls the liner.
The problem is the 2 holes in the wing need joining up to allow the intercooler pipe to be moved into place, then the hole is no longer big enough for the CAK to fit in, so if you look in the top picture what we had to do was cut the back hole a little further back so that the 2 pipes would fit in the wing, then the liner gets fouled so what we did was cut the inner wing above the CAK so that the cone was lifted up as high as it would go as there is more space higher up the wing. If you look in the first picture you will see there is still about an inch or so of bodywork above the black CAK pipe, we cut this out so it is almost flush with the top of the inner wing, then we took the mounting bracket for the CAK and gut it in half so that there was only one wing mounting bolt and one cak mounting screw, we twisted it 90 deg and bolted the bracket to the top mounting hole where it would normally mount to and the CAK mounting screw to the bottom mounting hole of the 2 on the CAK, if you look closely you will see what I mean. In the pic you will see it screwed to the top hole but after you cut the wing and lift it up it will screw in the bottom hole of the CAK
In teh bottom pic you can see the filter cone sticking out behind the FMIC pipe.
Hopefully this explanation helps a bit, I don't have any better pics of it sorry.

APS CAK (Cold Air Kit) fits with APS FMIC on MY00 with no cutting required of the inner wing. Good for 121mph trap speeds and 434 BHP on a 20G.
A larger K&N filter supplied from Harvey also fitted the APS CAK.
