I have a `00 classic. And for as long as ive had it, 4 years ish, its had a rattle behind the dash on the passenger side, its not the glove compartment either.. Beginning to bug me now, its the one thing i always notice...
Feel like attacking the dash!

Anyone have an idea??

 

I've got the same model and have noticed something similar, but never found out what it is. It only happens sometimes fortunately.

 

Yea, mines not all the time, but its noticable now..
Just have to drive flat out to drown out the sound..

 

The next time it rattles, ask your passenger to push their fingers between the leading edge of the dasbooard and the windscreen.
There is a section of trim that on my MY02 STI used to rattle just as you describe, and I also thought it was the airbag.
I have owned 3 classics but cannot remember if the dash constuction is the same as my MY02, and I have since sold it and bought a MY06 so cannot have a look for you.
