Thumbs down Optimax withdrawn by Shell and NEW 100 RON on the Way ?!?!

Just visited my local garage and to my horror all the optimax pumps were closed off , popped in to speak to the attendant, and I'm told that Shell have withdrawn the current stock of Optimax and will restock with a new (improved) batch soon????

The only problem was he didn't know when this would be and could only point me in the direction of a BP garage for Ultimate (which was 12p/ltr dearer).....

Anyone else heard this or seen Optimax pumps closed?

Liam

Ultimate 12p a litre more than Optimax......is that correct
Seems a hell of a difference.

Hi SamUK, sorry should of been clearer, the garage was still open but all the dedicated optimax pumps had yellow tags on them saying product not available!

Hope that my local garage has got this wrong!

Cheers,
Liam

My BP garage services the A1, and the Shell garage is a village garage, so it is 12p more expensive (crazy but true!)

There is one garage in Notts that has stopped selling Optimax due to sales but that is all. Every other one i have been too if anything, has only had Optimax! LOL. Especially Priory Island, you get your own pump there

I went into the Shell garage in Watnall, Nottingham, and the guy in there said that they were going to be replacing Optimax with something called 'V Max' and then started going on about all the Mitsubishies and Scoobies that go there having to be remapped?????

My local Shell always has some of it's Optimax pumps locked off. I've assumed this is due to low demand at this garage, and it's not worth keeping the tanks full. They should have stuck with the one tank when they first put it in.

I'm doing my best to help them out

The pumps are locked of at my local also, running on vapour as I assumed a delivery would be imminent.

I hope there not an issue with all the Oil..that the Americans are taking from the middle east...

I heard rumours a good while ago that Shell VMax was going to be introduced instead. It's been available on the continent for some time now so would make sense to bring it to the UK IMO.

There's no harm in using 100 octane fuel in a car mapped for 98, for example.

I thought (much like certain cars) that Vmax is just the European name for Optimax ie it is the same thing just with a different name, like Marathon changing to Snickers etc

V-power is 100ron, optimax is 98.6. You would only HAVE to remap if the new fuel had a lower ron value.
Yes, there will be more scope to improve the map, but running on a higher ron fuel than what the car is mapped for, WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR ENGINE.
