Default Grade on Imports

Looking to change my impreza for a slightly newer one. Which way does the scale go and does anyone have a definition of what each grade level means? I think it runs from 1 to 5 but not sure is 1 is best and 5 is bad or the other way round.

Also, how to tell that an sti is an sti? things to look for? we're all guilty of adding a few bits on. i have sti decals on my mudflaps but what are the 100% ways of telling.

thanks,

matt.

Ony an auction house grade has any worth at all; youll see it on the appraisal sheet. The minimum to accept is 3.5; 4 is better and 4.5 is rare (other grades should be avoided A, O & R and variants are accident grades). Interior grades work in the opposite way: A is cleanest and B is very nice. Id look for a grade 4 / B, but some 3.5s can be good buys too.

With regard to provenance; if the auction sheet says its an STI its an STI; the Japanese auction market isnt like eBay (ie. full of dishonest and ignorant f*ckwits describing every piece of ****e as an 'STI innit?'). To be sure look at the Applied Model Number for piece of mind; easily researched on SIDC.

Scale
1= BAD
5=Like new
(be aware of class A...this means that the car has been in an accident and has been repaired)

Aim for a 4 (and B or C interior), don't go below 3.5 (some auction houses wouldn't grade a car 4 if it has more than 100 000 KM on the clock).

For an STi look for the model code to have an E or D on the VIN plate, red top (dead give away), pink badge on the front grille...

check this for more info

other than that use the search facility, it has all been covered in the past (thanks for this precius information)

PS. don't forget to do a BIMTA check.... www.bimta.co.uk
