Question Check engine light after new exhaust fitted !!!

Hi,

I've just had a full system fitted yesterday (downpipe, de-cat, etc). After driving along for about 30mins the check engine light came on and has not gone off since ! Has something been damaged or will this cause any damage ? Is this something i need to be worried about ? Has anybody else had this problem ?

I've got an 03 WRX. Not sure what to do ? Please help !!!!!

It's a cat efficiency check. You need either a EcuTek remap or a CEL fix to remove it. You can usually buy the latter for circa £25 2nd hand on here.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks so it's not something that i should be 2 worried about ?

If i don't get it remapped is it going to cause any lasting damage ?

What is a CEL fix ? I've heard of it but not sure what it does !

Had the same on my old UK300, drove for about 2 weeks before mine came on. What you need is the sensor fix which you have to cut-inline to the sensor mounted in the centre pipe.
I was told that it wouldnt cause any probs to leave it, although i think its one of things when it plays on your mind and no matter where you look you see it in the corner of ur eye

You can get one here ...

CEL light will only come on after a steady cruise (on a decatted scoob). Ideally have it mapped and you'll reap the full rewards of the decat. Otherwise you can go for a CEL fix as mentioned.

Personally I don't see the point of decatting a newage car (esp. 03>) without mapping as the gains are very small due to the ECU compensating for the decat. Result, around +10 bhp if that..!

However, once remapped you should gain around 50bhp with similar torque and far better response along with less fuel consumption (believe it or not..!). You won't regret it..!

A note aside, the CEL should extinguish after 5 restarts only reappearing after another steady cruise..

BTW either way I wouldn't just leave it as it could mask some other CEL/error (ie if it's on most of the time how will you know of another error code..?).

Can vouch for that, mine was fine until i was doing a steady 70mph down the M5 2 weeks after fitting, couldnt afford the remap so went for the fix instead.
