Hi

Could anyone tell me if STi cams would fit in a UK car of the same age, would I need to have the car retuned or could they be classed as a bolt on part in which case no alterations would be needed.

Thanking you in advance

Mark

I guess they would fit, as the bores of the bearings will be the same. Problem is: some STIs had variable cam timing, which our Euro cars don't have.

Besides, I tend to think fitting other cams will not bring much improvement on a turbo charged car, unless timing and lift is way different - which I doubt.

I doubt if the cams would make much difference really, now putting a bigger turbo on would
You could also uprate your internals to forged items but this may cost you a little more, you would be able to run more boost thou and if you fitted a bigger turbo (more lag thou) you would probably need a new ecu in there and get it mapped for it too.
Its not quite like a normally asperated car for tuning cos if you do it wrong it gets very expensive

I seem to recall on a thread here some time ago that the later uk cars (phase 11?) used the same cams as the STi Got a feeling it might have been Pete Croney? (if it wasn`t my apologies to Pete)
Would be interesting to know what parts are in fact common?

In the "Training WRX" book, there is a comment about STi cars having solid valve lifters (rather than the WRX's hydraulic items) so you need to check beforehand.

It also states (if I remember rightly) that it increases power by 15Kw (20bhp)...

Something to bear in mind.

Thanks

Gavin

Yes as Gavin said most have solid lifters with large bucket, so you would need to replace the heads. The cheapest option is to buy heads out of a 1997-1998 2.5l Subaru outback which have the large buckets, these heads are identical to the STI heads the only difference is the inlet needs to be ported out to the same size as the EJ20 ports (the biggest bonus is you don't have to pay as much for these heads because most wreakers don't realise how good they are). These heads also use over head shims which should really be converted to on valve.
