Arrow ECU Mapping Info for Scooby Noob

Hey guys'n gals,

I wondered if you can tell me what options I have with regards to mapping and ECU modification addons?

I have a 93' WRX "Gray Import" with a newly fitted custom exhaust from manufold to tail, HKS Air filter and BOV.

Im not wanting to just up the boost untill I know the car is running perfect.

What options do I have and how much? thanks

Option 1 - Z4 ECU from late '94 to early '96 WRX increases boost target a touch and is safer on uk fuel than earlier ECUs. Many suggest this gives an instant 20ps, but I think this is unrealistic. Cost £50 - £150 depending on whether seller knows exactly what they are selling.

Option 2 - Pre-programmed chip to fit into your standard ECU like a "ScoobyECU". This increases boost to between 15.5 psi and 16.11 psi depending on what version you get. It also maps for 97 RON fuel. These can either be bought second hand or I think Scott Taylor (Scott T) could probably still sort you out. More info on these if you use search. Cost from £100 to £300 depending on whether you buy just the chip or an ECU with the chip already in place. Power will be upped to between 270 - 290 bhp approx.

Option 3 - Fully mappable ECU eg Apexi, Link, Motec etc. The best option, but comes at a price. You could get them from £400 second hand (Apexi with Commander) and then another £300 to have them mapped.

the AVCR is just a boost controller, he was referring to the Apexi Power FC, which is a replacement ECU.

If you just get the AVC-R, then you will need a fuel cut defender aswell. Otherwise if the boost is set beyond what the standard ECU sees as its safe limit, it will cut fuel to the engine.
