Dumb Question - quickshift

Sorry dumb question ... how do you know if you have the quickshift
fitted?
I have problems when repeatedly selecting reverse then 1st then reverse etc etc. Basically when pulling out of reverse into neutral it seems to go 'too far' and I can kind of feel a grating sensation.
Spoke to the dealer where I bought it from today (had it 3 weeks now) and he says he'll take a look and it may be the quickshift fitted to my car .. I was unaware it had been and I'm not sure he knows the car well enough to say this either.
It's a MY00 wagon (registered in Oct if this helps).
As I have had limited experience in Impreza's before I can't tell just by changing gear whether it's different to normal.

Not dumb at all. i bought a new MY01 that was supposed to have one fitted. I was happy as Larry until i drove a P1 and noticed the difference.... turned out they had charged me but not fitted it to my car!!!
The easiest way to be sure is to pull down the leather gator around the shifter / remove the gear ****. If theres it looks like a 10p has been soldered into the shifter arm about 2 inches down, thats a standard one. if its smooth all the way down as far as you can see, its a quickshift.
Also, the throw of the quickshift into 1st is about 1 inch from neutral. Its a REALLY small movement. I reckon if you havent thought "wow thats quick" then you probably havent got a quickshift if you follow...

Thanks .. I'll take a look tonight (if it's still light here in blummin Scotland when I get home).
I had an Audi before and compared to that the Scooby gearbox has a very small movement between gears. About 1 inch sounds correct but I'll have a look. Is there much difference between a standard scooby box and the quickshift???

There's no difference in the box at all, the quickshift is just a gear lever with the linkage attachment about an inch nearer your hand (and so further from the fulcrum) so a smaller movement of the end of the stick changes the gear.

Thanks, I knew the actual box wasn't any different.

Does this sound like a quick-shift then?
Would this then occasionally cause the problem I intermittently get i.e. coming out of reverse????
