Default STi 2 versus STi3 - any performance difference?

Just considering all option whilst looking to buy. I notice the STi V2 has 275bhp but from the STi V3 onwards they were uprated to 300 bhp.

In reality is there actually any performance difference between the two or was it balanced out by other differences such as weight?

Cheers

Because there was a gentleman's rule over there that no cars would be produced with over 280bhp. However, I thought that with a nudge and a wink a few of them did knock out cars producing more than 280bhp and just declared it as 280bhp.

Certainly all the tables of specs (such as http://www.iwoc.co.uk/jpimp4.html ) I've seen online list V3 upwards as having 300bhp as stock...

Cheers

The Sti 3 has possibly the most interesting production engine of all the factory produced cars, excluding some of the special edditions.

An Sti 3 2 or 4 door car will have noticeably more mid range go than the equivalent Sti 2

True, but that still leaves a gap in power between the V2 and V3 so the question of whether that gap is shown in on the road performance or not is still applicable.

Thanks for the replies so far

Does anyone know what the official 0-60 stat is on a V2 STi Type RA 555 V-Limited Edition?
