Default How much on a service? ££££ is it worth it?

How much do u guys spend on a Service?
The reason i ask is that i have never once had a car serviced.
The reasons for this being:
I have never owned a car from brand new and they have all had over 80,000mls when i've bought them, so i 've never really thought it was worth spending the money on Services as most things like plugs, leads, oil, pads and coolant i can do myself and any individual faults that i cant fix myself i then get the Garage to do that specific job.
The main reason for asking is that come MOT time (April) i was thinking of treating my Scooby (uk turbo 97) to a service. What sort of things do u expect from the service?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the mileage as to cost of service - if you have owners manual, it should give you a breakdown of what needs doing when at the relevant yearly or mileage intervals.

but one very important thing you must check and not skimp on is:

when did the car last have its' cambelt changed?

do a search on 'service cost' and you should come across loads of threads with anecdotes on the prices dealers and specialists charge.

Has the car got 100% dealer history so far. Will you loose more from its retail value by not continuing this history? Will you save more than you loose by doing it yourself? Will it blow up if you do it yourself?

Only you can answer these questions me thinks.

I never buy a car with any intention of getting money back on it, thats why i buy older cars so its not as hard on the pocket. All i really wanted to know is what the dealer will include in a general service?
The labour rates are becoming insane, BMW garages can now be charging as much as £100 an hour
