Default rolex submariner anniversary edition - calling yoza

it's my 30th birthday at the end of March, and I want to myself to something which I'm going to get regular use of and is going to last potentially the rest of my life.

I am thinking of getting one of these:

http://www.finestwatches.com/rolex-10463.html

having searched briefly online, I have found several places selling them at actually more than the original rrp.

presumably this means it was a limited run, and they are all sold out.

I have however found some US places with them in stock from new. now I'm guessing there are not any issues with buying watches from abroad, unlike electrical goods and such like?

any advice would be appreciated.

Ed

don't I know it!!!

but, I've worked myself almost literally to death of the past three years building my business, and now tomorrow hopefully something is going to come to fruition which will really establish us on a global basis.

so, this is not only a birthday present, but also a reward to myself for not having had a life for the past couple of years.

I had to give up literally everything to establish the business, including my beloved scooby and trackdays, and having very nearly been bankrupt at one point, it's nice to be, lets say, 'bouncing back'

Up to you, but personally I hate the green bezel, too showy.

When I bought my GMT II, I got the disgusting Pepsi bezel swapped for an all-black one from a GMT I.

A year or so later, Rolex started marketing the GMTII with an all-black bezel

Good luck with your business - though it sounds like you don't need it!

you really think so?

I totally agree with you on the pepsi bezels etc but I think the green in the flesh is absolutely gorgeous, is the main reason I'm getting it (not just because it's the limited-edition)

any thoughts on my questions regarding where to purchase? what are the warranties like on Rolex?

thanks

www.rolex.com

Have only seen one of these twice.. a guy in a bar i go for SALSA had one on!!
In the flesh i've had one in my hands as the salesman at GOLDSMITHS in Nottm (where i got my Daytona from!! )was given one as a gift from head office for all his years of service with them.

Best thing i'd do if i was you Ed would be go into a Authorised ROLEX dealer and get a bit more info on them first.
Would you know a fake if you had one??

don't get one without BOX+Papers either!

Phil

Oddly enough a guy on BM3W is selling a 2 month old one

http://www.bm3w.co.uk/ubbthreads/sho...&page=0#381552

Not a fan of the green bezel myself but I liked the old 'pepsi' ones!

looks like a stunning watch

not a connoisseur of watches, but can empathise with the whole working yourself into the ground for your own business...

if you like it, go for it, treat yourself

Ed,

$6,250 is a good price. UK "grey" dealers are charging £4,000.

If it was me, I'd phone a few US authorised dealers and if could find an Anniversary sub at decent money, I would consider getting a cheap flight out and wearing it back.

Box and paperwork could be carried/posted back to UK.

Otherwise www.bjsonline.com can be recommended (although not the cheapest)

They will hand deliver the watch to you.

Well, I'm going to be out there a lot from now on as our investment is coming from a US consortium and the HQ has to switch to New York.

So am I right in thinking I can buy from anywhere in the world and providing its genuine my warranty is intact?

I believe so. To be honest, your main concern is that the watch is genuine, hence only buy from an authorised dealer or a recommended gray marker retailer.

If you are in the states anyway, it would be rude not to

And remember, that even at $6,000 dollars, you will never actually lose that much on any resale.

The 16610LV ( Kermit ) was to celebrate 50 years of the sub bit is not a limited edition it is part of the standard range

The waiting lists are now dropping and as such so are the grey market prices

A AD should get you one in 6-12 months but if you can't wait the Grey market going rate is around £2900 now ( some places are just tring it on ) and I have seen them offered at RRP occasionally

Ed, I got mine from Second Time Round in New Bond Street(?). It was SH, but they have so many I was confident. No box and I think no papers (my mistake?), but it was there, I was in a rush, and I didn't want to wait 9 mths and pay an extra £500 for a new one. They also swapped the bezel as I asked, and the clasp, for one with the extra safety clip.

I sent it to Rolex for a service a year later and got a box and papers. Anyway, I'm not selling, so that's irrelevant

I'm not a fan of the green bezel either. At the time, I chose a GMT 2 instead. If it's a stainless you're after then IMHO the blue and red is the best bezel combo. I actually think it looks better than the bi metal Yacht-master I have.

I'll second for Goldsmiths, got both of my Rolexs from them in Leicester. Make sure you're 100 certain it's real now, there are many good copies floating about.

Daytona is too rich-chav now and far too faked as well.

and the submariner isnt faked?

i dont know, i like them both but would have a daytona (white face) before a submariner and i would not be bothered because I would know its real.

I looked at buying a Rolex. Had 4 I wanted to look at in the Jewelers. Wasn't impressed at all. All looked the same. I'll stick to my Breitling for now, and any future watch purchase.

Ed, i have one of these, i bought it on Ebay too. You should be able to get a mint secondhand example for about £2,300 from a UK seller - i wouldn't entertain buying one from abroad personally. Making sure it's genuine is difficult, but obviously asking to see a picture of the certificate is one safeguard you can take. But i think it's the overall impression you get of the seller. Engage them in conversation, ask a few questions, but bear in mind, most people hate it when the authenticity of the watch is questioned, especially if you ask more than once.

But if you get one, you'll love it. The green and black looks fantastic together. It will keep time very well, much better than older Rolexes. The downside is that it will stop after quite a short time, less than 2 days definitely, even if it's fully manually wound up.

PM me if you have any other questions/concerns

Go on mate treat your self, sounds like you deserve it. I love my GMT II and dont regret buying it.
Dont forget if its posted from the US you will pay customs and VAT on the shipped price so could work out expensive. Buy it over there, wear it home and post the box to your self. You could just go for an ordinary Sub or a GMT II useful if you travel a lot.
What about a Patek? They are rather special and not quite so bling, understated.
