Default That 6hours of my life i want back!!

i tried changing my uppipe today!! OMG!! what a complete ballache!!!

i spent about 4.5 hours taking all the bits off so i could actually get the pipe free.... then after all that it kept getting jammed, so at around 3:00 i decided to cut my losses and put it all back together before it went dark!!

The impreza engine has gotta be 1 of the worst engines in the world to work on (while its still in the car) no wonder subaru charge so much in labour!!

I now feel quite sick after spending most of the day lay on my back under the car!

You have to release the engine mounts so that the block can be lifted a little, giving clearance to get the up-pipe/turbo flange out. I agree it is a time consuming job especially if you have locked/corroded bolts.

At least it will be easier next time

It's always the way m8, the first time you do a job it's pain. Then you never need to do it again.

I have actually found the impreza engine of of the easier ones to work on in situ, spark plugs aside. Much easier than some of the mercedes commercial stuff!

Agree.
I changed my up-pipe and it took about 3 hours...
just undo bottom of up-pipe. Then undo down pipe. Take the bolt out of the down pipe that goes into the gearbox. Then pull the turbo off. Then it`ll pull out.
Fiddly job I admit. But its a game, and dont let your car get the uppper hand lol.

Good luck next time round...

man, i can't even change the panel filter properly.

took it out no probs, popped in the new one, but i'm buggered if i can get the plastic flaps at the bottom to fit in with a filter in (not a problem with no filter), but the metal catch (front of engine side) keeps getting in the way.

am i a spanner or do you need to take off any other stuff??

i've just put the metal clips on, but the airbox is a bit loose without the tabs attached

am i making any sense??

I changed mine a while back and being a complete numnpty when it come to car mechanics, I approached it with trepidation.

I had the same problem. Took the airbox cover off, removed the oe air filter, cut the GREEN panel filter rubber "lugs" to give a cosy fit in the airbox.

Now the easy bit, put the cover back on......

The way I finally achieved it????

Brute force, plenty of anger and some skinned knuckles.

Push the two plastic tabs in at the bottom, psuhing the top of the cover downward at the same time. Then force down the end of the cover with the metal clips and clip in place.

Crap instructions I know but it's how I managed to get it on. Good luck.
