Default Gearbox packed in....HELP!!

Ok i had a weird noise coming from around the gearbox area when i was driving my Wrx MY93 Wagon, took it to my local specialist & he said its the bearings.

The guy at the garage said that he'l remove the gearbox & send it to a company who would then strip it down & replace any worn items. However i've had a call from him saying "we've removed the gearbox but the the company that dealt with gearbox's has stopped rebuilding impreza box's"

So the only way out is to buy a second hand gearbox, now am right to say that you can not just get any wrx gearbox, it has to comply with the ratio's etc??

I really need to source a gearbox a.s.a.p, How do i know which gearbox is the right fitment etc? any advice would be highly apreciated.

Hi mate my gearbox went bang last week so i limped the car to a local gearbox re-builder who are working on it now. He told me there a 3 types of boxes for a classic wrx,sti and type r,although mine is an MY94 sti the wrx box wont be compatable so i would guess a normal wrx box should be a straight swap (im talking about the jap imports though!).

Hope that helps alittle
