Question Changing gearbox and diff oil

I have a jdm 6 speed fitted to my 94wrx complete with the 3.9 rear diff.
I am looking at changing all the oils. What are the best oils to use and how easy is this to do at home?

Thanks

Nathan

i have a 5 speed, so im not sure if the oils are the same but i used Castrol Syntrax 75w90 for the 'box. Takes about 5 litres.
Easy to do. Just remove intercooler, this will give you access to the 'box dipstick... this is where its filled up.
To drain it, just undo the drain plug at the bottom.

As for the diff, again, not 100% sure cos i havent actually done it on a scoob before but if its like every other car, there should be a drain plug lower down. and a fill plugbit further up... should be fairly obvious!

sorry, that isnt much help is it!

Two drain plugs in a 6 speed One in the gearbox sump (14mm Socket) & one towards the front of the box in the finned area (21mm Socket)
They roughly take 3.5 to 3.7 litres, Fill with 3.5 take for a run leave to settle for a few hours & then re-check, You can get away with removing the intercooler, Just use a 2 ft long piece of hose pipe & a funnel fits a treat

Glad i found this thread, i'm thinking about doing the oil changes myself. The gear box sounds easy enough but the Dif a bit more awkward.

The diff is the easy bit, filling the box back up is the hard bit, it fills through the dip stick hole.
