Default Internal and external wastegates

Can anyone explain to me the purpose and benefits of both styles? We require an Externally gated turbo dont we? or am i wrong?

Scoob oem and hybrid turbos (which utilise Bolt-on exhaust housings) have internal wastegates, largely because of cost, packaging and flow rates. External wastegates are separate to the exhaust housing and are used in conjunction with larger flowing turbos.
