Default STI Failed rear shock

Had rear shock replaced on 53 STI few months ago under warranty. Wouldnt do as a pair.
Now the others gone. If i'm right in beleiving this is a common problem is it worth lobbying Subaru UK for a recall.
Wont be much fun in 9months time when the warranty has run out!

There is a bulletin issued at dealers, they will replace both rear shocks and top mounts to the new re-designed type if the customer complains about knocking from both rear shocks.

Had mine done in the summer and had NO knocking at all since, marvellous!

Its not just the knocking, you get a funny lift when you stop as though the thing was stuck down an inch. Also smelt rubber going roung a large roundabout so just hope I aint damaged the tyre.
Being sorted thursday hopefully.

I have had exactly the same thing, twice. The Damper partially seizes, it then makes a knock when it free's off and you can feel the cars back end move. Think its the top bush wearing out allowing the damper to misalign with the shock tube.

Thing is, I had both front shocks replaced as the top bush had worn so badly you could get a noticable movement by pulling the top of the front tyre towards you. Think its the same problem, just the difference in the application of the force which makes the rears seize and the fronts go loose.

Can get so bad it affects the handling.

First went after 8000 miles, the second after 12000.
