Default Noisy rear diff

Folks,

I have an 05 STI (UK car, only has around 9.5K miles), and its recently developed a bit of a knock/rattling which I'm told is comng from the rear diff.

Only happens at low speed, and from inside the car sounds as though it's coming from the NSR. It happens even when driving in a straight line, not just turning. DCCD in auto by the way.

So, my dealer has looked at it, thinks its the rear diff and has ordered a new one.

However its getting worse - more often and louder.

They did drain the rear diff and the oil was completely black and contained bits of metal on the magnetic bung.

My question is whats the worst than can happen to it, is it likely to be dangerous to me in any way on a daily basis?

Thanks,

Shaun

If your dealer ordered one for you why not change it the soonest possible, it's rare to cause you any problem but who knows if it affects DCCD operation/reliability?

I will have it changed as soon as they get the replacement, problem is that it might be a couple of weeks away still.
