I'm about to change the timing belt on my MY98

Mileage is 160.000 km/99419 miles, do you recommend replacing the tensioner and idler pulleys as well? Water pump? Oil pump seals?

The idler pulleys are expensive, as is the tensioner. My idea was to order the GGR cambelt, tensioner and water pump and drop the idler pulleys. I'm trying to save some money

Any advice highly appreciated.

 

I would replace the front crank seal.. they seem to go around the 100k mark.. mine went at 104k.. change the cambelt again time also worth buying a cam seal, in case you get in there and find one is leaking, unless you can get to the dealer to buy one with no car etc.. crank seal on mine changed at 104k, cam seal changed at 150k, but only one of them that was leaking, other three not changed.

I am still running the original idlers and tensioner and car has done 174,000miles now..
next change due at 190,000miles..

 

Thanks! I'll replace the front and rear crank seals then, I also ordered 1 cam seal to have in spare if I find any leak.
If the idler pulleys are bad, I've found that it is possible to replace only the roller bearings at a fraction of the cost.

 

Yes indeed.. take said pulley to a bearing speciallist and they can read the serial number and should have a replacement off the shelf.. then just tap the old one out and the new one in..

 

Too bad I didn't replace the idler pulleys back in November 2005. Now I have to (180.000 km), VERY fortunate that the cam belt didn't slip...
