Default power steering fluid

Afternoon all

Is it normal for power steering fluid to get VERY hot when driving hard for a bit?

I have a 95 wrx and have just changed a leaking res and pump. I have filled it over full with fluid but the pump still whines when the fluid gets too hot after a hard run. I have to slow down for a bit for it to cool and then the whine goes. Ive tried adding more fluid but it does not help.

Is there a better quality fluid i can use (currently STP) which perhaps works as well even when hot or do you think i have a problem somewhere causing the over heating?

Would really appriciate some help

Andy

I used Mobil synthetic ATF fluid. Seemed to work well and no more leaks after a repair to the resovoir.
