Default Problem.... lurching, and running badly

hi guys, need some help.

Got the car back from the bodyshop the other day, with new bonnet, new scoop and 22b vents.

Yesterday it bucketed down with rain all day.... i went out to use the car and revs dropped, lurched up the road and would go over 2500rpm!

Sat in it for about 10 mins with engine running and it drove 'ok', but still not wonderful!

Im assuming waters gone in through the 22B vents? and assume it just needs to stored somewhere dry for it to dry out?????

any help appreciated!!!

Don't they have covers underneath to stop the rain coming through? The standard vents do don't they?

Yes it certainly should do. Do you run an induction kit? Water can run through the vents and straight onto that I believe

Yeah, it's got an Apexi induction kit....sitting right underneath the vent!! That most likely doesnt help either then!!!!! lol!!

So it's nothing to be terribly concerned about, once the blanking plates are fitted?

I'd be very concerned at the moment about damaging your MAF. With the blanking plates in place there shouldn't be a problem at all because this was how the 22b left the factory.

You say it's Ok now? If so, you probably just wet the electrics. Give it time to dry and it'll be OK.

DON'T run it without the blanking plates if it's been raining: if your induction kit manages to suck water into the engine, you could have a real problem. Water WILL NOT compress and could cause your cylinder heads to fail

The cars still at work at the moment, it was rainingi overnight and this morning, but its pretty dry outside at the moment! For the time being i've covered the induction kit with some bubblewrap which i had lying around in the car - i've lodged it between the bonnet and the filter, so water shouldnt get onto it!

I need to get it home tonight though! I could leave the bubblewrap wedged between the bonnet and the filter and keep the revs low - its only a 2mile drive home....

Should that be ok?

If my MAF sensor fails, how much would that cost?! Dont know if it makes any difference but the car is an MY95

The MAF sensors are stronger on the earlier cars If they go I think they're around £80 but they have been known to cause an engine to blow

By 'eck!

Right....

So if its not raining when i drive home from work, then when i get home, i'll fit the blanking plates, and not drive it for a couple of days.... give it time for everything to properly dry out..... then fingers crossed, everything should be ok?!

I don't think there's any need to not drive it as long as you can take your cone off and dry it in the house. Once that's dry again and the blanks are fitted you shouldn't have a problem
