I've just ordered some 18" Rota Tarmac2/GTA alloys from www.rarerims.co.uk for my 99 Type-R.
Its meant to improve the handling and lengthen the manic Gear Ratios on the Type-R STi.

Just need to bear in mind the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre.
It can effect your speedo reading.
