Default waking the neighbours...

gone from a twin peashooter to a full nur spec decat. I think some people in my cul-de-sac might be curtain twitching especially when i come home at 11ish. Even in first gear keeping the revs about 1200.

but its and put a big on my chops

You will soon learn the meaning of pissed off. Sorry to be a bore but thats the reality of my life at the moment every time some sh!tty boy racer goes past.

In that case guessing you don't have an exhaust system on yours?

I know what you mean, its one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" moments for me every time I arrive home late with my afterburner rumbling away!

Isnt there a bung available for the Blitz?
Just a thought.

Also,

You'll probably find that tunnels and bridges require second gear to be selected with your new exhaust fitted!

I cant wait to 'happen upon' a tunnel. especially being only a few miles from the dartford tunnel, ill probably end up paying the quid to go thru
Ive got a bung in the garage which will probably come in handy, but it needs a small screw to stop it coming out so havnt tried it yet.
I switched the engine off about 20 yards from my house and rolled in ! Just wish i worked a bit further away, fancy a longer drive in the morning

Comments like that aren't exactly fair. I have a friends Impreza at the moment that is extremely loud with a straight through exhaust and it was a wakeup call the other day that I upset a neighbour at 4pm by running it up on my drive whilst inflating the tyre. My Subaru is loud (ish) but doesn't seem to upset anyone but I'd not use it at night if it did.

You have to think of other people and not just yourself, a loud exhaust especially on a Subaru sounds good but late at night you don't allways want to hear it.

I hope that you can see that there are two sides to this, would you like your neighbour playing loud music at 4am because they work nights and just got in from work?

I understand your situation, but boy-racers don't care what time it is, they hammer past at any time of the day/night. I have the same problem where I live - they rev the **** out of their Novas/Saxos/Corsas etc in 2nd gear just to make sure everyone can hear their ****ty thing bomb past at Earth shattering decibel levels.

I think you took Paul-s' post the wrong way. He clearly stated that he keeps it in 1st and at low revs

My Scoob is quite loud and sometimes I come home very late, but I try to keep the noise to a minimum.

Where I used to live I used to get **** screaming past my parents house at 80+mph in a 30mph limit at 4am with a straight through exhaust Not one of these cars was a Subaru though

If you do own a loud car as most of us do then we try and keep the noise down as stated above. Not that many of us on here are arseholes and respect other people. There are quite a few people who don't though

get on ok with the downpipe fitting mate?

know what you mean about the curtain twitchers, live in a cul de sac of mostly coffin dodgers (they're good as gold though) and i guess the only advice is be respectfull towards their ears (which sounds exactly like what you're doing)

i leave for work just before 7 and try to pull off my drive without using the throttle and then short shift up the road, does keep things alot quieter(until i get to the miserable old ****** at no. 29)

Came home last night in first gear trying to keep quite, got to my back gates and there is a bloomin' mountain bike that sure as hell isn't mine leaning against my gates.

I have a quick look round before i get out, as i approach i see there is a bag, with a roll of wall-paper sticking out, i had a quick look in the back to see if there is any ID and i find a bloomin Claw Hammer and Screw Drivers!!!!, i then had to ring the police, which to the main point ruined any possible chance of me being as quite as possible!!!!

I too can see both sides, as both my son and I both have Scoobs mine only has a decatted centre, but Craig's has a full decat with a 5 inch tail pipe, and I do get worried cos my neighbour who loves our Scoobs he has a 5 year old and a new born baby daughter, so when Craig comes in I make sure he crawls in or he gets his **** kicked
Cheers

Sorry if I caused any offense but having not had a full nights sleep for four years does make you a grumpy old git. There are two cars that cause people in our road hassle. One is an old WRX with full exhaust that does drive in a responsible manner but at low revs the exhaust reverberates around the house waking the little ones, once one is awake its a certainty the other will wake also The other car is an Escort RS that seems to attempt the land speed record every time he drives it.

Once you have children your outlook does change and their safety and well being is paramount and being woken night after night by a WRX is not appreciated.

Sorry again

soo true
i show nothing but respect for my locals when i come home at all hours, i would not fit a big, gay, ****e, loud exhaust anyway TBH

the revolution system was considerd the best one for power with the lowest noise levels when i made my choice

another point

its easy enough to pull away in a scooby with no revs at all, hell i can even manage it in mine and its running a 7.5kg flywheel

when ever i have to pull away or pull up late at night this is the method i use

pull into your street with no revs and 2cnd gear, you will pass your locals a bit faster then 1st gear >> less time rumbling past there homes

What if you had a Lamborghini, there really loud standard, you telling me that you would not drive it as you might upset the neigbours, At the end of the day its a sports car, and its supposed to be loud,

same goes for the buses that come past my house early hours of the morning when im sleeping there louder then any scoob with a full decated Blitz Nur spec R, I cant expect them to stop working because I want a good nights sleep. if you cant live with it then get some better double glazing, Ill be happy to come round and give you a quote.

Actually they're not. Not compared to an Impreza with a decat and 'blitz type' exhaust. Very little is as loud.

A Lambo has to pass noise level tests too, just like any other new car. They might fart about with valves in the exhaust and/or induction though to give them an edge.

My car is loud according to my mates but I know it's still got a cat. and a resonator and a reasonably quiet backbox. Imprezas just aren't quiet cars. Merely adding PPP makes them throb just off idle. I know every time one of my neighbours drives his as it thumbles past the house at low revs.

how far away is a few streets?

if you live in the sticks then a few streets away can mean 50 miles as there all "roads" and no "streets"

not falling for that bait

mate
I live in a busy town, and the Lambo is parked on a busy stretch of road, so the neigbours hear cars race up and down there all night, so you did well not to fall for the bait.

I have a full HKS on my scoob which is fairly loud but not OTT, i would never change it because it might wake people up when i CRAWL down the street at night or early in the morning. Fact is i love the sound.

Emergency vehicles make a lot of noise with their bloody sirens as well which would wake the kids up, but i bet you'd be grateful if they saved your kids from a burning house.

Two choices live with it or move to Tibet, just my opinion

I was only making the point that not all people appreciate overly loud exhausts and yes every one is entitled to their own opinion on whats cool and whats not. I am in the very unfortunate position that my son has asthma, eczema and is a very light sleeper. I have no problem with emergency vehicles as they are providing a public service and they are not daily problem.

For the record we are on a bus route and you bearly hear them going past.

i've got a blitz NUR spec R, de-cat, and no bung in the exhaust.

If its late i try and respect my neighbours as much as poss by crawling up the road at very low revs. Most of my neighbours still hear me, but have just accepted that my cars loud, but that i make an effort not to be too noisy. They never complain, and actually like the sound!

As long as your being as respectful as you can, most people will be fine about it!
