Would you sell your scoob because of petrol prices?
So guys, as petrol is hitting £1.00 a litre would you consider selling your scooby to save some money?
I guess this would only really apply to those of us that use the car everyday. It's now costing me £40 a week on petrol to do about 20 miles a day.
It is tempting to sell it for say a bigger engined BMW as after having owned a BMW before the fuel consumtion seemed to be a lot better than the Scooby, also the insurance is a lot cheaper. Plus they still do a reasonable impression of quick.
Anyone? Or am I just suffering from severe mental problems? Although I am severly jet lagged as I was travelling round the USA last week and haven't got back to normal yet.

If petrol prices keep rising the way they are then I would have thought the only way of geting rid of the Scoob would be part exchange but then they may try and rip you a new........

The only temptation I have had is to put normal unleaded in, although haven't yet, but then it's a case of see how it runs. Certainly wouldn't sell it, would rather keep it for weekends and get the bus!!.

Nope. Will keep it as long as I can. Might have to cycle to w**k to cut the miles down a bit if petrol prices go really silly, but if that happens, everything will be expensive anyway.

Im considering having a look round for some sort of scooter for getting too and from work. Fuel consuption, ease of negotiating traffic and not having to care where i park it are all ticking the boxes. Save the scoob for evenings and weekends.

the way i look at it,it is has gone up for every car not just a scooby. so we all new we were going to be paying more than a 1.8 golf. a car will still cost a lot to fill a tank up in any car, it will just be more in a scooby. which u new when u got it. so that is why i will not sell mine. dont think that makes any sence. but it keeps me happy

This is a golden opportiunity to get a roal legal quad for commuting running about imho!
Ride one on a car licence. 250cc = 60mph cruise, 50+ MPG, can get two up, has luggage/shopping capacity and looks cool to boot for 2.5K
seriously tempted at the minute....

Not worth selling a car that drinks fuel when fuel is at such a premium.
I'm buying myself a bike for work and using the misses car during the winter. Theres a Type R just down the road from where I work which I could buy today but it will be far worse on petrol than my current UK turbo.

for those like me that do serious amounts of mileage to work everyday, it is soon going to be an issue worth considering....
An option is to get a £1,000 micra, insurance £200, tax £110, drive it during the week and scooby for weekends only. But in reality how much will this save? (after the costs above). Plus for thrill reasons you'd end up taking the scooby everywhere anyway...
Assuming you do 20k miles a year, this equates to approx 80 tanks of fuel a year (at 250 miles a tank) in the scooby. This is approx £4,000 in petrol alone!! (50 litre tank @£1 per litre x 80 tanks).
In a more economical car (assuming 45mpg), you'd need probably half that, so there would be savings to be made (after all the other running costs of the second car), but it would need serious discipline to leave the scooby at home and take the micra to work, wouldnt it?

all you guys sure love your scoobs don't you!!! i wouldn't go as far as to walk to work as i live too far from work for that but i like the idea of a bike or a quad.
i hadn't thought about the value dropping off the car because of the fuel consumption / fuel prices, good point that!!
what about one of those gas conversion things for it?

can't see the missus being too happy about that though as i already have my scooby and a scirocco (toy / track car) on the drive.

I already have - should be picking up a VW Bora 1.9 TDi Highline this week
In the end I couldn't justify spending over £500 a month on petrol just to go to work any longer...
Might be tempted to get a WRX at some point in the future, but wouldn't bother with an STi again - lost about £7k in just over 6 months on a 53 plate...

I would have sold it by now if I was concerned.
However, I do run on 95 RON when travelling about. That's the beauty of having the FC-Datalogit software and a Power FC ECU. (or any other combo that will allow for a quick switch of maps)

lets face it costs ££££££££££££££££££ in which ever form you choose to get it these days!
anything and everything we enjoy get shed loads of tax thrown on top of it since the government know that we work hard in order to play hard.
which catagorically places them in the position of being "barstewards" imho!
scoob stays! wallet pays!
