Default 05 WRX & mp3's - help

I have a just taken delivery of an '05 WRX Wagon , soooooo much better than my old Cupra, and am using an FM transmitter for my Zen micro mp3 player (not an ipod). I'm not bothered about being able to change the tracks etc through the head unit, just want a decent connection.

I've searched the forums but can't find a definative answer so can someone out there please tell me if I can connect the player to the auxilliary port of the head unit ?

From what I've read I think I need a Kenwood CA-C1AX cable then a RCA to 3.5mm Aux-In Link.

Will this work ?

I'm a complete novice at this sort of thing and you guys seem to know your stuff.

Any comments would be greatly received.

PS - If anyone is interested in FM transmitters try the one on the link below for the Audia X version 2. I have it (bought it on German ebay for £24) and am pretty impressed with the decent quality, tunes into any FM frequency and comes with cigarette lighter power adapter

the kenwood lead is for kenwood units i dunno if it will work with the factory unit as i've not seen the cd changer port one a oem one if it has one. as far as i can see your only option without a head unit upgrade is the fm transmiter.
you can also try contacting autoleads to see if they make a lead for the oem unit. www.autoleads.co.uk

I had lots of fun trying to DIY an adaptor, and decided it couldn't be done:

If you get a lead make sure that the place you get it from will take it back if it doesn't work - it would be best to state exactly what head unit you have and what you're trying to do and get them to tell you what you need. That way it's their recommendation you've gone on, so their fault if it doesn't work.

I'm sure that others here would be interested to hear if it works or not.

For what it's worth, the standard HU (UK) is a Kenwood GX-401EF2.

Thought you might be interested in this reply I got from Kenwood. That appears to answer that question.

"Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

I have had a response from Japan regarding this matter. Unfortunately the GX-401EF2 will not recognise the CA-C1AX – so you cannot have an auxiliary function – sorry.

Kind Regards

Andy Griffiths, Navigation Customer Support Engineer"

That appears to answer that question !

Hi guys,
I am currently looking into this myself. (55 plate WRX - std headunit)
I checked with my local ice dealer and he says he's looked into it and made some enquiries and has been told that the Kenwood KCA-IP500 will work on my std headunit...
I have sent an email to Kenwood to confirm this but received no reply..
Does anyone have one of these installed and working.
The shop said they would give a full refund if it didn't work, they want £85 for the adapter, but I can get one off ebay for £45 - £50 plus shipping, though I probably won't be able to return that.

Any help would be much appreceiated...
before I take the plunge

thanks....Dean

Finally got a reply from Kenwood....
Sorry Dean your head unit is a Japan Market unit and has very different system ports to Euro Ones.

This means that our iPod adaptors wont fit. Your only chance is to go on Japan car HiFi dealer websites etc and look for their version of the adaptor and import it

Alternatively We do have double size head units which you could use to replace your current unit
(i'm sure you do Mr Kenwood!!)

hope these clears everything up.
